About those vaccine "hesitant" folks

The CDC's own surveys show that age is the most likely determinate for vaccine hesitancy

The CDC loves to hide data but you can pretty much figure out what’s going on with some basic deduction. The latest National Immunization Survey Adult COVID Module (NIS-ACM) is out. According to the CDC Tracker, 218,973,123 Americans have at least one dose administered to them.

That leaves us about 111 million other folks - the dreaded vaccine “hesitant.” Actually, because the survey is only for 18+ year olds - the real number to find is about 32 million.

Let’s see if we can find them in the data (charts below).

• 10 million - 21% of 18 to 29 year olds are in the “Probably or Definitely Will Not Get Vaccinated” category.

• 5 million - Another 10% of the 18 to 29 year old group are not yet vaccinated but list themselves as “Probably Will Get Vaccinated or Unsure”

So right away about HALF of the unvaccinated are in age category where there is little to no risk of serious harm or mortality from COVID-19. There are about 55 million 18 to 29 year olds in the united states representing some 18%+ of the population but they account for one-half of 1% (0.5%) of the COVID-19 deaths.

We’re still missing the other half. The rest of it trickles out in age. About 20% of the 30 to 50 year olds indicate they will not or have not gotten vaccinates. That’s 20% of 65 million and there’s another 13 million.

It’s pretty simple. But the other demographics are interesting to discuss as well.

From a race and ethnicity viewpoint vaccine hesitancy is whittling down to almost single digits now. When you average it all together about 15% to 20% of Whites, Blacks and Hispanics “will not” or have yet to get the vaccine. Asians do not seem to be nearly as hesitant as others.
