We knew something was afoot when Andy Slavitt, the now retired special advisor on COVID to the White House, started hinting at something coming in August.

For some reason the ever-powerful unelected health expert has determined that they can thwart and stop the course of a viral pathogen.

They tried to aim all guns at Governor DeSantis but he was having none of it:

DESANTIS: "If you're trying to deny kids a proper in-person education, I'm gonna stand in your way... If you're trying to restrict people, impose mandates, ruin their jobs... If you try to lock people down, I am standing in your way."

All eyes were on Florida when things started to turn and you realize - everyone has to go through the gauntlet eventually.

There is no hiding from the virus. Eventually, it comes for you. San Francisco is in the midst of its biggest surge yet. 76% of the ENTIRE population is vaccinated and cases have already hit winter levels. Hosp. have hit 2020 summer levels. Deaths holding low 🤞

The main problem is we have completely messed up the way we evaluate risk. When it comes down to it the primary factor is “how old are you?”

U.S. COVID-19 deaths 2020-21 by age (year) - 30% of all deaths occurred over the age of 85 - 80% of all deaths occurred over the age of 65 - Only 15% of the U.S. population is over the age of 65 (Source: CDC - just updated: data.cdc.gov/NCHS/AH-Provis… )

The other factor is: are you dying of something already. Consider:

Less than 1% of deaths had no chronic conditions.
96% of deaths had 2+ conditions.
Nearly 70% had 6 or MORE co-morbidities.

Then in August some serious concerns were raised about vaccine efficacy. Even as the mandates flowed it was very evident that this was very different from what they promised:

Don't let them gaslight you. They sold us 100% protection, no infections, and we could get back to normal.

From CDC data it was evident that many of the decisions around vaccine potency were made during a “trough” of cases:

Latest CDC data on vaccinations and cases by age. Almost every single age group sees cases drop by 75% BEFORE they even get to 10% vaccinations. Something else is going on. Vaccinations are NOT the primary driver pushing cases down. (I suspect seasonality + natural immunity)

Of course, vaccines seem to have some good prowess especially for severe illnesses and hospitalizations. The finger-wagging started right away - “this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated” which wasn’t the case at all. There is no correlation that I can see for "low vax" counties and "high hospitalizations"
