Looking at these charts it’s hard for anyone to assert that serious mitigations are warranted now. Indeed, it’s hard to justify anything other than a return to normal.
We’ve included the entire timeline on cases and deaths so you can see 1) how big Omicron actually is (was) and 2) how vaccine mitigations did NOT seem to significantly curve deaths compared to previous waves. One can make a case that the case fatality rate of Omicron is mightily reduced (which is absolutely true) but even during high vax late-delta stages it’s unclear how someone can point to vaccines being an unmitigated success. More on that later.
