What's happening with California?
Newsom touts my home state as the lowest state in per capita cases but Year-over-Year stats tells a different tale
Is California really doing that much better than last year for COVID-19 stats?
Cases are same or higher than last year
Deaths per 100K same or higher than last year
Total deaths by week higher for almost all large counties.
What will happen in the winter?
Martin Kuldorff has an excellent update to his age-adjusted COVID deaths per state. The results? After all is said and done - the strict California stay-at-home orders (they padlocked the local swing set!) vs the Florida full freedom fest since last summer - the two states ended up at the exact same age-adjusted mortality rate.
I've added a tab for "Year over Year" to my collection of dashboards, thanks for the push. Whole country. Use filters, or click on map to see specific geo. https://public.tableau.com/views/CovidbyClimate/YearoverYear?:language=en-US&publish=yes&:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link
