Who's Avoiding the Shot?
The CDC's own survey indicates that age is likely the primary factor predicting vaccine hesitancy.
Let’s be frank. The government sucks at this. Remember what they promised us about the vaccine.
This obviously hasn’t panned out as they thought it would and that mixed messaging (e.g. masking up the fully vaccinated) has caused irreparable harm.
But maybe it’s just that people are SMARTER than we give them credit for. The largest demographic we can identify for vaccine hesitancy is age.
Risk of the vaccine is PRIMARILY associated by age and so you can see the ratio of risk involved in hesitancy is completely understandable.
This is taken from the weekly NCIS survey and you can see that they seem to have convince about 5% of people to move from the “Probably or Definitely Will Not Get the Vaccine” category over 6+ months.
Let’s look at race:
Interesting that the mean difference between blacks, whites and hispanics is not that large but it seems like Hispanic hesitancy is moving more downwards. Blacks on the other hand have moved hesitation into the “Probably Will Get Vaccinated” category.
When you look at economic factors you get what you expect but even thin things are evening out:
By any public measure getting every single group above 50% closing in on 70% is a remarkable feat (for better or worse).
I’ve asked again for the cross-tabs. Alas - they won’t give it to me.
<50 the risk calculation is simple enough for most people. The mandates are effective at forcing people into taking it, when otherwise they would be wait and see. Quite why there is this hysteria over vaccinating EVERYONE still baffles me, but that's where we are.
