Fauci's the kid who wants to please the playground bully, always scarier than the bully himself, who might have some guiding principles. Before any of us knew his name, Fauci knew that asymptomatic spreading isn't a threat, that masking the general population is ineffective, that alarmism carries high costs, and that taking care of one's health (weight, sleep, exercise) is the best protection against severe respiratory illness. But then the New York Times and CNN needed a Teen Beat celebrity and he reversed his position on all of these things, without ever citing any evidence for the changes. He just wanted to be on TV.
