Behold: The Omicron Variant Emergeth

Here's the breathless news you need to know is probably nothing to worry about.

The WHO has spoken. The new variant which crushed the stock market today and lead President Biden to shut down travel from numerous countries shall be named OMICRON!

If you thought the variant was called Nu (the next letter in the Greek alphabet naming scheme then you are about 2 hours behind the times! Even so, news stories continue to use Nu and Omicron because the WHO are ridiculous and like every health agency in the world — messaging is NOT their forte.

Multiple news agencies continue to misclassify the designated variant heretofore known as “Omicron”

Of course, in naming the variant the skipped a letter Xi in the alphabet. I wonder why?

Gee. I wonder why the WHO skipped the Greek letter Xi (Ξ) and went straight to Omicron (Ο) for the new Covid variant?

Here’s what we know so far:

• The assessment is made on the genetic makeup of just 59 cases out of South Africa

And that’s honestly all I’m ready to comment on. It’s too early to make any other assessment. In fact, one South African doctor doesn’t seem too alarmed:

One prominent scientist, Prof. Balloux seems to imply that the variant came from an immunocompromised undiagnosed AIDS patient but honestly, I don’t know what to believe.

How do we know this is probably nonsense? Because of Ding. If Ding is saying that it’s 500% more transmissible it’s probably nothing to worry about at all.
