Bad spike mutations!

That ... thing Ding is a wonder with the English language. Spike mutations are only bad because the vaccine induces spike targeting by the immune system.

For natural immunity it's a "don't care".

They skipped Nu now because they would have had to skip Xi anyway. This way they can simply claim that skipping Xi doesn't mean what you think it means and instead point that they skipped Nu, too.

Well if it's 500% more competitively infectious then there seems to be no reason to apply any interventions because interventions didn't do jack for any of the prior versions.

If it turns out to be 500% more transmissible but significantly less deadly than even delta they'll still be able to scare people because people want to be scared.
