I was initially skeptical of Youngkin, as I am of all politicians, public officials of any kind and now, sadly, doctors, most especially after the last few years.

Maybe Youngkin is the real deal. Certainly Winsome Sears gives me the impression of being as authentic as they come.

As a resident of VA my hope is that Youngkin enters a friendly rivalry with DeSantis for who can bring the most enduring sanity to his state.

I lived 18 years in Virginia... most of my kids were raised there in Loudoun county. So crazy the changes there. Winsome Sears is great... love this moment from last week: https://twitter.com/LVozzella/status/1493324647584215041

In light of the recent DHS warning, the US convoy looks like a provocation... Specifically alarming March 1st Washington DC arriving date, just in time of the first 2022 State of the Union address. Canadian truckers protesting vaccine mandates, what US trackers are going to protest?

...meanwhile in the Peoples Republic of New York, after getting the "you'll lose your credentials if you don't get the booster by 2/21" emails, and one system sending a desperate deferral sheet to me (none of which I'd follow or stop DMARDs for), at 3pm the announcement comes that they'll re-evaluate for 3 months. I'm hoping a combination of realization of the magnification of HCW loss (started with the vax mandate), along with the general ineffectiveness of the shot preventing transmission of a viral mutation it wasn't created for, caused this. Can't help to think politics in it also.

Curious how your trip to Gainesville turned out with regard to leaving CA, Justin?

It was a great time. We crossed off a few places and narrowed it down. Still unsure.

I understand it's a huge decision as I've read your history in CA. FL is not San Diego climate-wise or bug-wise!! Some of my husband's family of origin is in CA, but they live in a bubble and don't think what's coming down is going to affect them. They couldn't be more wrong.

It's an insane clown world we're living in right now. I worry that people will gradually brush all of this aside in the months and years to come, returning to their reality shows, college sports, Trump's latest words of wisdom, and all of the usual distractions until the abuse is once more ratcheted up.

Regarding the USA truck convoy, I don't see how this has even a miniscule chance of reaching D.C. There are far too many Karens across the country that will use their own vehicles to disrupt the trucks. Now that the authoritarians have seen the way it went in Canada, they will not risk allowing it to even get a toe-hold. If they manage to get through all of that, the last leg appears to be in Maryland, where we have a puppet RINO for governor surrounded by politicians and bureaucrats that would sell their grandmothers for a Federal contract. Maryland State Troopers will be all over these trucks.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a grassroots protest of the size and scale of Canada's, but I think the USA movement missed the window of opportunity when it fizzled a year ago.

Logistically it would make more sense for truckers (and others) to visit their respective state capitals. Good discussion of this at https://www.brasscheck.com/video/if-i-were-a-a-us-trucker-heres-where-id-take-my-family-on-vacation-this-month/ .

If a hundred thousand trucks approach DC, I expect feds will block the roads and use violence or threat thereof. How will the resident population receive essentials? Think about the Berlin Airlift of 1948-9, plus containers on trains (unless rail workers go out with truckers, which I doubt).

It's notable that the Ottawa protestors have been peaceful. Could US truckers -- who are a lot more likely to have firearms -- remain nonviolent even when provoked by federal operatives?
