The increase in school shootings since 2012 seems to coincide with the marxist/woke agenda induced mental health crisis far more than with the access to or sale of guns.

For the last 50+ years, our society has been inundated with several evil ideas that have led directly to these kinds of tragedies -

Fathers are unnecessary

Masculinity is toxic

Children are expendable

We have welfare, food stamps and housing programs that make it easy for women to do without a man in the home, and the children go fatherless. We have legalized the killing of inconvenient babies, and the glamorization of casual sex hook ups - from which many of the inconvenient babies are created. Feminists have been railing on about how boys and men are toxic, and should be re-molded into effeminized versions of manhood. Boys are missing out on the ability to explore and learn to tame their natural aggressive and competitive natures, and instead are drugged and shamed into obedience to the rulers of the government indoctrination centers (aka public schools.) The foundational family has become a rarity in which children are raised with two involved, caring, nurturing parents, and are mostly left to figure out life via social media and their peers.

Is there ANY wonder that from this toxic, evil soup we've made of our society that evil is permeating every aspect of our lives, and in some cases, being celebrated?

It would be interesting to find out whether the killer was on psychological meds. It's getting to be a fairly common attribute among mass killers.

I spend half the year in Mexico, where there are very strict gun laws. Criminals freely commit violent crimes against (and extort) unarmed citizens and small businesses. Obviously, being the export hub for the huge US illegal drug market supercharges things, but I can’t help but think that, especially in some of the more rural areas, the criminals wouldn’t be so brazen if they knew some of their victims may also be armed. Just my opinion.

Mass shootings are terrible events, just as mass stabbings or other forms of mass murder that take place in other countries where citizens have been disarmed. Have you all seen any facial photos of woman scarred by battery acid? It's a favorite "weapon" in Islamic countries. There is no shortage of "weapons" available to an individual who wants to kill people.

There is almost always one factor in mass shootings: they take place in "gun-free" zones. When schools start arming and training teachers, killers know they are better off finding other targets.

I used to be very uncomfortable with guns and never wanted to own one myself. As our lawless government is galloping toward tyranny, my belief in the Second Amendment grows stronger. The Biden Regime's agenda is obvious: destroy the USA. They are using all the means at their disposal to do so including hyping gun violence so as to disarm law-abiding gun owners. Criminals are always going to have access to guns. I don't want to be unable to defend myself because the government refuses to protect me.

I'm with you. That said, the Heritage Foundation's database only pulls from media reports, so may or may not have the full story on these shootings. A friend was involved in one shooting I was able to find in the database. It's listed as a road rage incident by Heritage, but it actually was an attempted armed robbery. The perpetrator tried to rob an off-duty armed security guard, holder of a concealed carry permit, and the bad guy made this ill-advised attempt in the driveway of the guard's residence. But the media report gives none of those details, so of course neither does the Heritage database state them. The missing or incorrect data in this case certainly wouldn't negate the info you're citing regarding defensive shootings. But neither does the database give the full picture, for good or for ill. And we have to assume that it's not the only such case listed. Use accordingly.

I don't want to live in a world where everyone carries guns. No thank you...

#4 is so classic Florida. (I carry any time I'm not in my jammies.)

Sorry Justin, but there are currently about 110 gun violence deaths PER DAY in this country. Your stats from the "Heritage Foundation", a gun-advocacy and lobbying group, can only come up with one "legitimate" defensive use every few days ? I strongly suggest that the answer to guns is not MORE guns. I don't care how many uses are 'un-reported'. It just doesn't balance out.

We need to stop teaching and training ourselves to be afraid of other people, especially strangers. It would help a lot if we started trusting each other more.

Whatever happened to the doctrine of "in loco parentis?" Shouldn't schools be held liable for failing to protect children?

Clearly, and the inverse of this is just as stupid as the negative societal impacts of

artificially dis-incentivizing the use of fossil fuels in favor of substituting technology that will literally double CO2 emissions with the added bonuses of far more deleterious environmental impacts of rare earth mining, energy scarcity and unreliability not to mention the unstable or adversarial regions in which the mining takes place.
